Description

1908-O MS66 Barber Quarter
Deeply Toned, Strong Underlying Luster

1908-O 25C MS66 NGC. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. More than 5.7 million quarters were struck in the New Orleans mint in 1908, but the story remained the same in the waning days of this branch mint as it had for decades previously: Coinage was needed in the local channels of commerce, and few pieces were set aside in Uncirculated condition. This is a high-grade exception. The mint luster is thick and softly frosted, covered with deep, original layers of blue-gray and faint traces of reddish patina. Better struck than most New Orleans products. Census: 5 in 66 (1 in 66+), 2 finer (10/13).
Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $2.00; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. (Registry values: N2998)

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
