    Description

Low Mintage, Conditionally Rare 1912-S Barber Quarter

1912-S 25C MS 68 NGC. Ex: Eliasberg. The San Francisco Mint's production of quarters in 1912 lagged far behind that of its Philadelphia counterpart (708,000 pieces versus 4.4 million pieces, respectively). While the latter issue is understandably more common into the lower reaches of Mint State preservation, both the 1912 and the 1912-S are equally elusive above the MS 65 level. This beautiful specimen exhibits an even endowment of silver-gray toning with steel-lilac shades over the highpoints. We can find neither distractions nor worthwhile post-production pedigree markers on the clean surfaces. While PCGS also reports a single MS 68 example with none finer (5/00), we doubt whether that coin can match the present NGC representative in terms of aesthetic appeal.
    Ex: Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr. Collection (Bowers & Merena, 4/97), lot 1608, where it realized $6,160. (NGC ID# 23ZT, PCGS# 5663)

    Weight: 6.25 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
