    Description

    Key-Date 1913-S Quarter Dollar, Fine 15
    A Nice Mid-Grade Original Piece

1913-S 25C Fine 15 PCGS. Two mintmark positions are known on the 1913-S quarter dollar. The present coin shows the S almost centered between R and D, and its bottom on plane with the tops of those letters. A second mintmark is much closer to R and low.
The small mintage of 40,000 pieces was produced at a time when very few people were collecting Barber quarters, and consequently most pieces are well worn and fall in the Fair to Very Good range. Choice Fine examples such as the coin in this lot are infrequently seen. Indeed, PCGS has certified 14 specimens in Fine 15 and NGC has seen a mere two coins thus graded.
Light silver-gray patina displays occasional whispers of light gold and violet, and the design elements are appropriately detailed. All letters in LIBERTY are strong except for the bottom of R, and all letters in E PLURIBUS UNUM are clear. The lines in the shield are clear save for those at the bottom. Both sides are minimally marked for a coin having seen moderate circulation, and each appears to be original. This is a great coin for the grade.(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 23ZW, PCGS# 5666)
