    Description

One Of The Finest Known 1913-S Barber Quarters

1913-S MS 67 PCGS. Full, frosty mint luster with a slight haze of russet toning. The strike is a bit soft on the eagle's right (facing) talon and there are no defects visible to the unaided eye. With a minuscule mintage of only 40,000 pieces, the 1913-S has by far the lowest mintage of the Barber quarter series. David Lawrence in his work The Complete Guide to Barber Quarters states, "the 1913-S has the lowest mintage of all 20th century regular issues; it is sometimes available in MS 65, but extremely rare above that. Underrated above MS 65 in today's market." We totally concur, as this is the finest example we have had the pleasure of offering. This specimen is on a par with the Eliasberg coin, sold for $39,600 by Bowers and Merena in April, 1997. Noting that NGC and PCGS have certified only four pieces in this superior condition, with none finer (1/99), gives one an accurate measure of the rarity of this superb Barber quarter. Population: 2 in 67, none finer (6/99). (NGC ID# 23ZW, PCGS# 5666)

    Weight: 6.25 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
