    Description

Key Date 1913-S Quarter, One of Only 40,000 Pieces Produced

1913-S 25C MS 64 PCGS. According to Breen (1988), William Pukall, A. C. Gies, and Wayte Raymond accumulated rolls of Barber quarters during the 1930s for the benefit of later collectors. In fact, most of the Mint State survivors from the scarce branch mint issues probably owe their existence to this source. On the other hand, these dealers were only able to assemble one or two rolls of the key date 1896-S, 1901-S, and 1913-S. The latter coin, whose original mintage of 40,000 pieces is the lowest of any 20th century regular issue silver or minor delivery, is understandably recognized as a scarce coin in all grades. A lovely example, this seemingly conservatively graded coin is free of noticeable post-production detractions. The luster is bright and swirling beneath pale golden-gray iridescence. Interesting clashmarks (as struck) in the obverse field are located on either side of Liberty's portrait. A fleeting opportunity for the advanced specialist and a lot that is sure to garner considerable attention.
