    Description

Satiny 1913-S Barber Quarter, Impressive Near-Gem Quality

1913-S 25C MS 64 PCGS. Barber quarter production at the San Francisco Mint plummeted from 708,000 coins in 1912 to a mere 40,000 pieces in 1913. The West Coast branch mint used only two pairs of dies to deliver the 1913-S issue, and its original mintage is the lowest of any regular issue silver or minor delivery of the 20th century. An understandably important coin, this splendid near-Gem is essentially untoned with a smooth, silver-gray sheen. While some '13-S quarters are softly struck over the left obverse and/or right reverse, the present example is crisply defined in all areas. There are no distracting post-production abrasions, but both sides display interesting clashmarks (as produced) in the fields. An attractive coin, and a highlight of the Church Collection.
