    Description

    1915 Barber Quarter, MS66
    Shimmering, Light Golden Mint Luster

1915 25C MS66 PCGS. CAC. This frosty Premium Gem is boldly struck in most regions, with Liberty's face and hair curls particularly well brought up. The upper-right corner of the shield is a trifle soft, as usual. The surfaces are devoid of distractions, and both sides exhibit a blush of pale champagne toning overall. Superior quality and eye appeal.

Population Data (4/15): This Premium Gem is tied with 19 others as the finest at PCGS. NGC reports nine MS66 and one MS67 finer.

Heritage Commentary: The 1915 is plentiful in grades through MS65 but becomes a significant condition rarity at the Premium Gem level. While NGC reports one Superb Gem finer, this beautiful piece is among the finest obtainable in a PCGS holder.

Consignor Commentary: A nice coin for the grade, well-struck and lustrous with a hint of toning behind Liberty's cap on the obverse and at the top of the reverse. It has a shallow depression in Liberty's jaw and neck. I think there is something in the striking process which causes this feature of the dies to be exaggerated on sharply struck pieces. It can be seen on other coins in this set but not quite as noticeably. Bought from David Hall (so you know the grade has to be correct).

    Provenance: Purchased from David Hall (11/2002).(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 2422, PCGS# 5670)

    Weight: 6.25 grams
