    Description

Unsurpassable 1916-D Barber Quarter, MS 67 PCGS

1916-D 25C MS 67 PCGS. Ex: Eliasberg. An understandably common coin in most grades, the 1916-D was widely saved as a final-year issue. The mintage figure of 6,540,000 pieces is also generous for the Barber quarter series, although this mintage was achieved at the expense of the similarly dated Mercury dime. One of only eight MS 67 survivors known to both major grading services and unsurpassable in terms of surface preservation (5/00), this coin was obviously well cared for since the day of delivery. The swirling mint frost is readily evident beneath the pale lilac-gray iridescence. Freckled russet shades are also noted on the obverse, as well as suitable striking definition throughout.
    Ex: Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr. Collection (Bowers & Merena, 4/97), lot 1619, where it realized $3,520. (NGC ID# 2426, PCGS# 5674)

    Weight: 6.25 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
