Toned Prooflike Surfaces
1898-S 25C MS65★ NGC. This spectacular Barber quarter
exhibits razor-sharp definition and prooflike fields under a spotty
patina of sea-green, cobalt-blue, and amber. Visual appeal is
tremendous. From a mintage of just more than 1 million pieces, the
1898-S is conditionally scarce in Mint State and rare at the Gem
level. Census: 9 in 65 (1 in 65+, 1 in 65★ ), 6 finer
(11/24).Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 6/2013), lot 4456; FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2018), lot 3514.
