'1783' Treaty of Paris Medal, Fine 15
Continental Dollar Reverse, Betts-614

"1783" Continental Dollar Peace Medal Fine 15 NGC. Crosby Page 370, Betts-614, High R.6. White metal, 39 mm. This crude issue commemorates the Treaty of Paris that confirmed American independence. The obverse depicts a peaceful encounter between a standing Indian and a seated Britannia, with a London landscape in the background. The reverse imitates the Continental dollar reverse. Described as "very rare" by Betts, though more examples have emerged since his day. The medal is listed in the 2007 edition of 100 Greatest American Medals and Tokens. Likely carried as a pocket piece, this silver-gray example shows even wear. The design is apparent and the legends are readable. There are no relevant marks or verdigris spots.
