Description

Popular William Pitt Medal, Betts-515

(1863) William Pitt Medal. Betts-515. Bronze, 41.4 mm, 28 gm. Similar to the widely popular 1766 Pitt medal by Thomas Pingo (Betts-516 ), except this example is an 1863 version made by a New York die sinker. Identical to the original medal, except this piece is unsigned and shows a slight difference in the spacing of the letters in the reverse legend, which reads: THE MAN WHO HAVING SAVED THE PARENT PLEADED WITH SUCCESS FOR HER CHILDREN. A medium chocolate-brown piece with slight wear and no problems worthy of mention. Accompanied by the original auction envelope.
Ex: Montreal Collection Public Auction Sale (NASCA, 12/79), lot 2623.
