American Aloe Plant

1720 Medal American Aloe Plant, Silver, Betts-109, AU55 PCGS. Ex: Adams-Sydney F. Martin Collection. 47.9 mm, 43.5 gm. Unsigned. The obverse design includes an American aloe plant in bloom at center, with plants on either side and a large building in the background. At top is the legend, FLORERE SATIS, which Betts translates as, "To bloom is sufficient." The reverse text refers to an American aloe plant in the garden of Salzdal. Below it is a monogram AW, believed to refer to Augustus Wilhelm, Duke of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel.
