Description

1739 Admiral Vernon Medal, Porto Bello, Adams-PBvi-8-I, R.7 -- Damaged -- NGC Details. VF. Ex: Sedwick Auction 24 (11/2018), lot 1639; Admiral Vernon Collection. Copper alloy. 10.25 grams; 38 x 26 mm oval planchet. A few indents in the upper-right field and some minor irregularities along the upper-right obverse edge prompt the NGC Details grade. Original deep-gray toning lightens to brownish-tan at points of wear throughout this rather crude-yet-rare Admiral Vernon variety. McCormack-Goodhart suggest that this medal variety was perhaps fitted into the loop of a key. VF sharpness survives on both sides.
