    1773 Lord Chatham (William Pitt the Elder) Copper Medal, Betts-522, Choice Uncirculated Uncertified. 25 mm. Dies by Kirk (KIRK F. along obverse rim). Obverse bust of Pitt in curly wig facing right, reverse LORD CHATHAM 1773. Pitt, First Earl of Chatham, was also known as the Great Commoner and was British Secretary of State during the Seven Years' War, known in America as the French and Indian War. He was later Prime Minister. He was a generally friendly voice in the British government toward the American Colonies, and Pittsburgh and various other American locales are named in his honor. This gorgeous piece has lustrous surfaces with lots of eye appeal and no mentionable distractions.
