    Description

    1720 John Law, XF
    Betts-137, Silver

Betts-137. 1720 John Law. Silver. XF. 26.7 mm, 6.2 gm. Unsigned. The obverse of this example features the arms of John Law's Compagnie des Indies. The company had a monopoly on business within the French colonies, in both North America and the West Indies. Law exaggerated the wealth of the area, leading to wild speculation in the company's stock until the bubble burst in late 1720. Strong luster remains in the protected areas of this lovely piece. The surfaces reveal scattered toning in intermingled shades of gold, red, and blue.
Ex: Harmer, Rooke (11/1969), lot 328; Ted Craige Estate (10/1982); John J. Ford, Jr. (Stack's, 1/2006), lot 614.

The outcome of the auction far exceeded my best hopes and would not likely have been as successful with out your sound advice on where to present the coin and how best to set the reserve. Throughout the process your availability , support and knowledge were exceptional.
