    Description

    1631 Dutch New World Victories
    Betts-33, Silver Medal

Betts-33. 1631 Dutch New World Victories. Silver. Fine. 50.0 mm, 2.9 mm thick, 46.7 gm. Medal turn. Lace-collar armored bust of Frederick Henry, Prince of Orange facing right. Reverse shows Dutch lion overthrowing one of the Pillars of Hercules, a favorite Spanish imperial symbol, extending Dutch boundaries beyond Europe and preparing to strike the second pillar next; splendid symbolism of Dutch defiance of Spain's New World might. Reflective fields show pale gold toning, hairlines and minute contact marks on both sides.
    Ex: Jacques Schulman.
