    Description

Betts-515. 1863 Copy. William Pitt. Silver. XF. 43.5 mm, 36.2 gm. Unsigned. The consigner of this medal included the following information: "In a Dr. Edward Groh letter to the American Numismatic Society dated 14 February, 1901 he states that the dies of this medal were cut by a die-sinker of New York and medals were struck from them at No. 29 Rose Street on a large screw press, operated by a German, in the year 1863. This medal is a 1863 copy of the 1766 medal by Pingo." A pleasing piece, areas of gold, blue, plum, and peach toning appear on both sides. The surfaces reveal a degree of luster. Although scattered marks are present, they are not distracting.
