    Description

    Betts-620. 1786 Benjamin Franklin Natus Boston. Original Strike. Bronze. VF. 46.0 mm, 49.2 gm. Signed by Augustin Dupré (1748-1833), a renowned engraver, on both sides. A left-facing bust of Benjamin Franklin appears on the obverse of this piece. The translated text is, "Benjamin Franklin, born at Boston Jan. 17. 1706." An oak wreath appears on the reverse. The text translates as, "He snatched the thunderbolt from heaven and the sceptre from tyrants." Wear is present on the high points of this example from the original striking displaying red, brown, and tan on the obverse, with the reverse being darker.
