    Description

Betts-97. 1702 Expedition at Vigo Bay. Copper. MS65 Brown NGC. 37.6 mm. A beautifully preserved medal, this Gem displays rich chocolate-brown color. The design elements exhibit strong definition, including the ships in the harbor. Close examination reveals toning in hues of gold, green, and pink. A small die crack is present near 2 o'clock on the reverse and a few tiny spots are present at the upper left rim. According to Betts, "there were three pairs made to strike it, all slightly varying, and one with FR. in place of FRA. in the obverse legend." This example displays FRA.
