    Description

1849 Three Cent Silver Pattern, Judd-112

1849 Three Cent Silver, Judd-112, Pollock-126, R.6-7, PR 63 NGC. Ex: Pittman. This pattern was coined for the purpose of showing Congress how large the intended silver three cent pieces would be. The design on the obverse is that of the regular issue half dime die. Three is symbolized on the reverse in Roman Numerals. There are no other design elements on the reverse. Although its size is similar to that of the half dime, its composition is 60% silver and 40% copper in order to achieve a value of three cents. Struck in this silver-copper alloy with a reeded edge. Shades of dark mottled toning envelope each side of the coin. Die filing marks are evident in the design, but do not detract from the intrigue or eye appeal of this coin. (PCGS# 60112)
