    Description

1851 Ring Cent in Billion, Judd-127

1851 Ring Cent, Judd-127, Pollock-149, R.6, PR 63 PCGS. After the Mint's unsuccessful efforts at using billon as a coining metal in 1836, this composite was tried again in 1850 and '51. This pattern is perforated in the center. The obverse reads CENT ONE TENTH SILVER. The reverse has a laurel wreath around the hole with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA at the perimeter. Struck in billon (90% copper, 10% silver) with a plain edge. Basically non-reflective with spotty gray toning on each side. (NGC ID# 3863, PCGS# 60127)
