    Description

    Lovely 1863 Transitional Two-Cent Pattern, PR 66

1863 Two-Cents, Judd-316, Pollock-381, R.6, PR 66 Red and Brown PCGS. Die trials issue of the adopted design of 1864, only dated 1863. Struck in bronze or copper with a plain edge. Possibly struck in late 1864 as the reverse die shows the same die chip out of the upper left serif of the D in UNITED as on the last business strikes from 1864. The insert does not give a color designation and the PCGS number corresponds to the Brown examples of this Judd number, but this is obviously an error. Actually, the surfaces show very little browning with deep cherry-red being the dominant color on the coin. A superior transitional pattern, and in fact, one of the finest known. (PCGS# 60316)

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
