Description

    Spectacular 1868 Three-Cent Nickel, Judd-615

1868 Three-Cent Nickel, Judd-615 Thin, Pollock-680, R.6, PR 66 PCGS. The obverse is struck from the adopted three-cent nickel dies, while on the reverse the Roman numeral III has a smooth surface and is surrounded by a wreath of corn, cotton, wheat, and tobacco. The obverse is set on a cent-sized planchet, leaving that side with extra wide borders, but the reverse looks normal. Struck in nickel with a plain edge. This is a splendid, well produced pattern whose surfaces show a depth of mirrored reflectivity not normally seen on regular production proofs. Each side has pale aqua, violet, and golden patina of unsurpassable beauty. The only defect is an area of planchet flaking out from the chin of Liberty. (NGC ID# 29JG, PCGS# 60615)
