    International Dual Denomination Pattern of 1868, Judd-656

    1868 Dual Denomination $5-25 Francs, Judd-656, Pollock-729, R.6-7. PR 63 PCGS. Anthony Paquet's design for an international coin with values expressed in dollars and francs for the Latin Monetary Union Conference on international coinage. The obverse depicts Paquet's bust of Liberty facing left with date below and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA at the top of that side. The reverse is simply inscribed 5 DOLLARS 25 FRANCS inside a laurel and oak wreath. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. The surfaces are spot-free and evenly mellowed to a medium brown with faint suggestions of underlying red luster. An important and historically important pattern. (NGC ID# 29K7, PCGS# 60656)
