    Description

    Important "Amazonian" Pattern Half-Dollar

    1872 Half-Dollar, Judd-1201, Pollock-1341, R.7, PR 65 Red and Brown NGC. William Barber's famous "Amazonian" design. The obverse depicts a figure of Liberty seated facing left, her right hand resting on the head of an eagle, her left arm rests on a shield. She is encircled by thirteen stars and the date below. The reverse shows a large eagle with its wings spread, surrounded by UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and HALF DOL. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. The nicely reflective fields are covered with tan and blue colorations, abundant copper-red is seen in the protected areas. Both sides are essentially free of unsightly carbon spots and flecks. An important pattern half-dollar issue. (NGC ID# 26VW, PCGS# 61201)
