Description

Important 1875 Copper Pattern Half Eagle

1875 Five Dollar, Judd-1439, Pollock-1582, R.7, PR 67 Red and Brown PCGS. William Barber's design for the five dollar denomination with the head of Liberty on the obverse wearing a coronet and her hair tied back with a ribbon. The reverse has a small eagle similar to that on the Trade dollar and twenty cent piece with scroll below and the statutory requirements above and below. Struck in copper with a reeded edge.
This is a very impressive pattern that simulates the exceedingly rare gold patterns. The surfaces have taken on a rich reddish patina with violet and blue overtones, and the fields are deeply reflective. The only identifier for future pedigree purposes is a tiny toning spot below the 75 of the date at the border. An important opportunity. (PCGS# 61439)
