    Description

1879 Goloid Metric Dollar, Judd-1626, Pollock-1822, R.6?, PR 65 PCGS. A gem example of William Barber's design for the Goloid Metric dollar with a large head of Liberty on the obverse facing left. A wide band holds the hair together and is inscribed LIBERTY, as designed by William Barber. Struck either in goloid (copper, silver, and gold) or standard silver, eliminating the small portion of gold. The fields are well mirrored and the obverse is more or less a monochromatic hazy gray with only a slight accent of golden at the periphery, while the reverse is a riot of pastel colors made brighter by the underlying reflectivity.
