    Description

Rare 1878 Morgan Dollar in Copper, Judd-1551, PR 65 Red

1878 Morgan Dollar, Judd-1551, Pollock-1728, PR 65 Red NGC. The obverse is essentially the same as the adopted design, while the reverse differs primarily by having three olive leaves to the lower left of the eagle, rather than a cluster as seen on the regular issue dies. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. Both sides exhibit a glassy, copper-golden appearance with suggestions of greenish-gray and violet color that shadow the devices. Wispy hairlines in the fields surrounding the portrait are easily overlooked. A copper dollar pattern that is of the utmost importance to the specialist in this field and the advanced Morgan dollar buff alike. (PCGS# 61551)
