    1883 Pattern Nickel, Judd-1712

    1883 Five-Cents, Judd-1712, Pollock-1916, R.6, PR 63 PCGS. A bust of Liberty faces left with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around and the date 1883 below. The head is the same as was used on regular-issue 1883 nickels. The reverse is inscribed 33 N. 67 C. within a wreath of corn and cotton. FIVE is above, CENTS is below. There are 13 stars at the border arranged 7 left and 6 right. Struck in nickel with a plain edge. Very bright and deeply mirrored on each side, a hint of rose-golden toning is noted. Remnants of an ancient fingerprint show on both sides.
