    Description

NGC 1875 Ten-Dollar, Judd-1444, R.7, PR 63. Gilt. William Barber's design for the ten-dollar denomination with the head of Liberty on the obverse wearing a coronet and her hair tied back with a ribbon. The reverse has a small eagle similar to that on the Trade dollar and twenty-cent piece with scroll below and the statutory requirements above and below. Struck in copper gilt with a reeded edge.
This is a very impressive pattern that simulates the excessively rare gold patterns. The surfaces have taken on a rich reddish patina and the fields are deeply reflective. There are a few stray hairlines in the fields, but these are of little consequence to the overall beauty of the coin. As identifying marks for future pedigree purposes we point out a small scrape in the right obverse field below the juncture of the hair and ribbon, and a small mark in the field in front of the nose. Also, on the reverse there is a hook-shaped lint mark in the field below the final A in AMERICA. Not quite as scarce as the Judd book indicates, the new pattern book will most likely reclassify this piece as R.6. (NGC ID# 32YS, PCGS# 61444)

The outcome of the auction far exceeded my best hopes and would not likely have been as successful with out your sound advice on where to present the coin and how best to set the reserve. Throughout the process your availability , support and knowledge were exceptional.
