    Description

PCGS 1851 Ring Cent, Judd-129 Original, R.7, PR 64 Brown. This Ring cent pattern shows an obverse with a wreath around the perforated center and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the border. The reverse reads simply CENT/ ONE TENTH SILVER around a circle that surrounds the perforation. Struck in billon with a plain edge. Most of the surfaces are a deep brown and blue with lighter mellowed orange-red scattered about. A rare and desirable early pattern cent struck in a reduced size and in an experimental alloy. We know of only two appearances of this pattern in recent decades, the Crouch coin (Superior, 1977) that was silver plated, and the Harte piece from B&M's 1983 sale. (PCGS# 60129)
