PCGS 1855 Flying Eagle Cent, Judd-170, Pollock-196, R.6, PR 64 PCGS. A variant of the adopted Flying Eagle design, struck in a larger format coin. The reverse resembles that of the large cent. Struck in a nickel alloy, presumably of 20 percent nickel and 80 percent copper, with a plain edge. While it is impossible to determine for certain this pattern's metallic composition without further analysis, the color of this piece (and the fact that PCGS has assigned this Judd number rather than Judd-171) is suggestive of a higher percentage of copper. The reverse is layered in appealing rose patina.
