Description

Dr. Barclay Double Eagle Uniface Die Trial

Undated (1857) Uniface (Reverse) Double Eagle Die Trial, Judd-Appendix A, Unlisted in Pollock, R.7, MS 60. According to the Judd reference these die trials were made for Dr. J.T. Barclay by A.C. Paquet on July 6, 1857. The central device shows a spread-winged eagle with long, trailing scroll in its beak and bundle of three arrows in its right (facing) claw. Above is UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Below is TWENTY DOLLARS. Struck in white metal with a plain edge. Most of the original brilliance of the white metal is still in evidence, but the fields and highpoints of the devices show some slight oxidation. (PCGS# 60226)

Thanks to Heritage I realized a handsome profit for my coin submissions and intend to send most of the remainder of my collection to Heritage Auction Galleries for future auctions.
