Description

A California Gold Rush History by Q. David Bowers. This copy is #148 of 400 printed, and has front and back glossy photographs of Justh & Hunter gold bar #4200 attached to the inside back cover. Like all examples, it includes a pinch of gold dust recovered from the S.S. Central America, embedded in the inside front cover. The shipwreck is best known for the many San Francisco Mint double eagles recovered circa-1988, but its most valuable cargo was a number of large gold ingots from forgotten assayers of the California Gold Rush era, all of which are featured on color plates within the text.
