    An Original Copy of Attinelli's
    Foundational Numismatic Bibliography

Attinelli, E.J. Numisgraphics, or a List of Catalogues, in Which Occur Coins or Medals, Which Have Been Sold by Auction in the United States, also, a List of Catalogues or Price Lists of Coins, Issued by Dealers, also, a List of Various Publications of More or Less Interest to Numismatologists, Which Have Been Published in the United States. New York, 1876. 8vo [27.5 by 18 cm], contemporary or slightly later black cloth, embossed in blind, spine lettered in gilt in the English style. 123, (1) pages; folding frontispiece facsimile of the 1828 Watkins broadside. Annotated lightly in pencil. Anonymous bookplate pasted atop earlier one. A tall, fine copy.

The first substantial American numismatic bibliography, published as the hobby transitioned from its adolescence into adulthood. With its colorful vignettes of dealers and collectors of the day and a plenitude of useful facts and fascinating lore, Attinelli's work brings 19th-century American numismatics to life. His descriptions of collectors and dealers of the day are indispensable to any attempt to understand the beginnings of commercial and organizational numismatics in the second half of the 19th century in America. A rare title whose supply has been outstripped by demand since its publication. This is a very well-preserved copy.
    Estimate $2,500.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
