    Description

Coin Shop, Inc. The Otto C. Budde Collection of Continental & Colonial Currency. Washington, D.C., Oct. 28-29, 1969. 8vo, original printed card covers. (2), 50 pages; 1409 lots. Inscribed and initialed, "Price & Buying Copy / EPN" on the front cover. Entirely priced by hand, with notes indicating which lots were purchased by Eric P. Newman for himself and which were bought by him for others; a few other significant buyers also recorded, including James DuPont and Paul Garland. Newman's pre-sale notes indicate which lots he needed, which ones he had in lesser condition, and occasionally how notes compared to other specimens about which he knew. The firm's principals were B.M. Douglas and Thomas P. Warfield. Original prices realized list laid in. Very good. An underappreciated sale. Estimate $100.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
