One of the first 12800 Reis struck at the Bahia Mint

Joao V gold 12800 Reis 1727-B, KM141, Russo-099, Gomes-135.01, AU Details NGC, cleaned. 2nd Shield Type. Incorrectly labeled KM138 on the holder. Bahia mint "B" Dobras are certainly one of the most coveted series in Luso-Brazilian numismatics. The complete "set" of Bahia Dobras (until our 2013 NYINC auction when we sold the previously unknown 1729 of the first reverse type), includes 8 date/type combinations struck in 1727 through 1730. The RLM collection includes an amazing 5 pieces. This specimen has AU details with light adjustment marks on the obverse. A bit of brushing on the bust. Reverse is superior in condition and strike.
