Description

Pedro II Counterstamped 500 Reis ND (1688) VF25 NGC, KM438.1, LMB-104, Gomes-112.02. Type IV crowned "S00" countermark (AU Strong), struck on a Portuguese João IV 400 Reis from the Evora mint (cf. KM52). Well-protected legends exhibit little actual wisps of handling in juxtaposition to the well-worn central devices, imbued with an off-center but deeply applied "S00" mark.
