Description

Pedro II gold 4000 Reis 1702/1-P AU Details (Cleaned) NGC, Pernambuco mint, KM99, LMB-99, Guimaraes-1702/1-1.1. Mintage: 2027. One year type. The sole gold issue struck in Pernambuco, where the short lived mint mainly produced silver 640 Reis between 1700 and 1702. Showing boldly-rendered devices and hints of luster to the toned fields, it's in fact a high grade for the type, which Guimaraes described as very rare to find when finer than VF. Seldom-seen at auction, with only a handful of results in recent decades, the example offered stands above the XF Details RLM piece and will likely engage Brazilian type collectors.
