Pedro II gold 5000 Reis 1858 XF (Engraved Devices), Rio de
Janeiro mint, KM470, LMB-641, Guimaraes-Unl. First type, crown of
thorns. Mintage: 1,146. 4.31gm. The key-date of the series, this
scarce issue is presented with honest wear to the obverse and what
seems to be a repair to the center of the shield, likely an
ex-jewelry piece. Curiously, Guimaraes only lists this date as the
Crown with Pearls variety, while LMB only lists it as Crown of
Thorns. Second to hit the market in the last 20 years after RLM's
AU Details piece, this elusive offering will likely garner the
