Description

Key of the Series

João V gold 10000 Reis (1/2 Dobrão) 1724-M MS61 NGC, Minas Gerais mint, KM116, LMB-244. First date of issue. The imposing key date of the type, much scarcer than the Dobrão key. An example from the peak of the Brazilian gold rush, chiefly supplied by the small village of Vila Rica, which provided far more gold to the Portuguese in a few decades than all the gold mined in the Spanish Americas across several centuries. Well kept and lovely marigold-toned, this offering is more eye-appealing than the RLM piece (AU55), as it lacks the usual weakness to the highpoints.
