Description
Jose I gold 3200 Reis 1756/2-R AU Details (Cleaned) NGC, Rio de Janeiro mint, KM183.2, cf. LMB-414 (unlisted overdate). A minimally handled piece showing an antique-gold tone which indicates being long ago cleaned. Though Guimaraes only lists 1756/5, a 5/2 is clear, a date not listed for this denomination but found in 800, 1600 and 6400 Reis, indicative that 1752 3200 Reis may have been issued. That being said, with no known examples, the present offering could be as close as it gets to the 1752 pieces.Ex. RLM Collection (Heritage Auction #3026, September 2013, lot 23809)
