Description
Minas Gerais. João Prince Regent Counterstamped 960 Reis ND (1808) VF30 NGC, KM240, LMB-442. Crowned arms counterstamp on the obverse, banded globe on the reverse (AU Standard), struck on a Charles III 8 Reales 1784 PTS-PR from Bolivia (cf. KM55). While fairly common as a counterstamped type, the host coin is an earlier and more sought-after variety, bearing the bust of Charles III, with most struck on a Charles IV host. With only a few specimens crossing the auction block in the last decade, this is sure to interest variety collectors of the issue, especially considering its condition relative to known examples. From the Vila Rica Collection
