Description

Minas Gerais. João Prince Regent Counterstamped 960 Reis ND (1808) VF30 NGC, KM240, LMB-442. Crowned arms counterstamp on the obverse, banded globe on the reverse (AU Standard), struck on a Charles III 8 Reales 1784 PTS-PR from Bolivia (cf. KM55). While fairly common as a counterstamped type, the host coin is an earlier and more sought-after variety, bearing the bust of Charles III, with most struck on a Charles IV host. With only a few specimens crossing the auction block in the last decade, this is sure to interest variety collectors of the issue, especially considering its condition relative to known examples.
