British India. East India Company - William IV gold Proof Restrike 2 Mohurs 1835.-(c) PR58 NGC, Calcutta mint, KM452.1, Prid-3, S&W-1.4. Type SG. A scarce Restrike issue that presents the bare-headed portrait of William IV surrounded by vibrant, lemon-tinged surfaces that contain a number of limiting marks in the mirrors. The reverse design illustrations are sublime, and the emblematic prowling lion motif is beautifully-rendered in full glory with mild chatter surrounding. A bit of rub or very light wear is noted atop the King's hair and cheek, but neither are all that distracting to the eye. An altogether flashy representative of this rare type, and one that should bring a substantial premium, even in this lightly handled quality.
