    Description

Edward VIII copper-nickel Penny and 1/2 Penny 2-Piece Specimen Set 1936-KN, King's Norton mint, FT-, but cf. FT178A (penny) and FT235 (1/2 penny, but unlisted as specimen) (unlisted as set), KM-SS-, but cf. KM16 (penny) and KM15 (1/2 penny) (same). Coins are graded: Penny SP66+ NGC, 1/2 Penny SP67 NGC. The case is in good condition. From the collector: "A  pair of specimen 1936KN 1/2d and 1d pieces housed in a dark blue leather box. The lid inscribed in gold block letters 'KING EDWARD VIII'.  Perhaps these two denominations were amongst the earliest pieces produced bearing the titles of King Edward VIII and hence their special treatment in a fitted box." Missing from the Diana and Arielle Collections, as well as all other collections and auction catalogs that we have searched through; therefore we have little hesitation to say that this set is possibly unique. Both coins are real Gems, with consistent coloration throughout and between each of them; they are clearly a "sibling" pair. An exciting opportunity for the British Commonwealth specialist.

Please note that this is not the lot listed in the printed catalog as 37097.
