    Description

George V brass Specimen Shilling Shilling 1936 SP64 NGC, Royal mint, FT317, KM-. Incuse specimen stamp on obverse. Ex. R. J. Ford Collection (lot 108). From the collector: "A pattern with the word 'SPECIMEN' in small letters stamped incuse in front of the King's face. The security edge comprised of pellets within rectangles differs from the one eventually adopted. Only two specimens known in private hands." The other example of this type seems to have last crossed the block in Spink 6032 (November 2006, lot 798), where it hammered at 520 GBP, or $1,013 at the time. That piece was described as "some staining, otherwise extremely fine." That surely cannot compare to the coin on offer here, which has exquisite natural surfaces and an esteemed pedigree to boot. Blue iridescent toning hidden along the periphery gives this coin great eye appeal.
