Description

1914-D Buffalo Nickel, MS67
Early Semikey Issue

1914-D 5C MS67 PCGS. CAC. With a mintage of just over 3.9 million pieces, the little-saved 1914-D has become a popular semikey Buffalo nickel issue. While examples through MS64 and even MS65 are available for a price, the opportunity to own anything finer comes only rarely. The fact that PCGS and NGC combined have certified only 10 coins in MS67 -- with none finer -- confirms the substantial condition rarity of the issue.

This impressive Superb Gem, housed in a green label holder, is sharply detailed with vibrant, frosty luster that complements light-orange, lilac, and green-gold patina. The finely textured obverse in particular is ruggedly attractive, and the coin is as carefully preserved as it is appealing. CAC endorsed and a formidable Registry Set candidate. Population: 9 in 67, 0 finer. CAC: 3 in 67, 0 finer (11/18).
Ex: Philadelphia Signature (Heritage, 8/2012), lot 5046; The Leon Hendrickson Collection / Houston Money Show Signature (Heritage, 12/2015), lot 3054, where it sold for $17,625.
