Description
Captivating Superb Gem 1915-D Buffalo Nickel
1915-D 5C MS67 NGC. While the Type One Buffalo nickels of 1913 were saved in quantity, by 1915, far fewer pieces were saved for their novelty, and Gem and better representatives of the branch mint issues for that year are challenging. Pleasing luster and delicate peach and gold patina greatly enhance the visual appeal of this noteworthy and exquisitely preserved nickel. Lange offers words of caution about the 1915-D, calling it "the first date from the Denver Mint in which weakness of strike becomes a factor." On this piece, however, the bold detail on both sides rises above all but the most petty criticism. The only Superb Gem graded by NGC, with just three such pieces across both major services and none finer at either (8/07).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22R8, PCGS# 3928, GSID# 3108)
