    1916 Doubled Die Obverse Nickel
    AU Sharpness

1916 5C Doubled Die Obverse -- Improperly Cleaned -- NGC Details. AU. FS-101. A key to the series, the 1916 Doubled Die Obverse is several times rarer than the 1918/7-D. The date is widely die doubled, as are the feather tips, and the Indian's profile. LIBERTY shows no obvious doubling and must have been near the "pivot point" for the Mint hubbing mishap. The present lime-green and stone-gray example has a typical strike but only minor wear. Bright and lightly hairlined from cleaning, and we note a couple of pinscratches near the profile. An opportunity to acquire a sharp yet affordable example of this seldom encountered variety.

HA is a traditional auction house, they set up their auctions slightly different from typical domain auctions. This works well, it seems to be a good mix of old age (live bidding in a prestigious hotel) and new age (online bidding).
