1916 Doubled Die Obverse Nickel, VF25
    Attractive for the Grade

1916 5C Doubled Die Obverse VF25 PCGS. FS-101. The key date to the Buffalo nickel series, the 1916 Doubled Die is even more challenging than the 1918/7-D, and is much scarcer than the famous 1937-D Three Legged nickel. Despite 35 points of wear, the widely separated secondary date is obvious to the southeast. Although the pick-up point is the date, die doubling is also noticeable on the feathers and profile. Lilac-gray in color is seen overall with glimpses of russet freckles and a few streaks of olive-brown toning. The wear is even, and no marks distract, particularly when the grade is considered. Perfect for the collector who seeks a collectible but nicely detailed mid-grade example.
    Ex: Dallas Signature (Heritage, 11/2005), lot 2030.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 2TSS, PCGS# 3931)
